Ok, so quick confession.
The game “Silent Hills” is not being made…yet, but a group of talented filmmakers from Michigan have made a short fan film based on it.
Anyone familiar with the “Silent Hill” video game series will be instantly familiar with the imagery and sounds from this creepy short. The short film called “Silent Hills P.T. in real life” is based on a playable trailer for a canceled game called “Silent Hills P.T.. The game was supposed to be an amazing collaboration between video game creator/genius Hideo Kojima and master filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. The short film inspired by this incomplete game was released about a month ago and it’s starting to get some serious traction with over 300,000 views so far on youtube.
The first thing I have to say is wow!
These talented folks from “AMS Productions” absolutely nailed the feeling of the playable trailer. Even with the low budget they must have been working with they were still able to make your skin crawl with every frame of this video. I have to admit I got a little giddy while watching this. There were so many little details pulled straight from the original playable trailer on Playstation 4.

I’m not sure if they simply used the original sound from the trailer or if they recreated it themselves. Either way the sound was used to great effect. They did put in some of their own unique elements into the video which were very cool.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Silent Hills P.T. I will leave a link below to a playthrough video of “Silent Hills P.T.” along with a link to this short film. In the game you are walking through a hallway in a suburban home and every time you go through the door at the end of the hall you end up in the same hall over and over again. The creepy part comes from a radio broadcast that is constantly playing in the background that talks about a man murdering his entire family.
As you progress through the game something changes every time you go through the door. They start out as small things like the photos on the dresser being slightly off, and things progress into the bizarre as the home becomes more and more grungy. All the while something lurks just behind the bathroom door. Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead was supposed to be the star of the game (which would have been amazing) before it was unceremoniously canceled by video game publisher Konami.
It’s the little things in this amazing short film that really get you.
There is a part in the video where words appear on the wall which keep changing every time you look back. Those types of creepy moments really stuck with me long after the credits rolled. Do you get the impression that I liked it? As a fellow filmmaker and lover of the macabre I absolutely loved this short film. I really do hope that either Konami comes to their senses and makes the game or these guys from “AMS Productions” get permission to make this into a full fledged Silent Hills film!
