A heartbeat
It begins low and unnoticed
Then quickens
A room
Enveloped in shadow
Where you think you are alone
Where you think you are safe
Safe inside your own head
Safe in a dream
Safe in your bed
Far away from reality
But in the dark
When you think your covers will protect you
Will keep you warm
Keep you safe while you slumber
They will not
For there is a shadow
A Shadow crawling up your wall
Onto your ceiling
Then making it’s way down
It reaches for you
Claw like fingers
Scratching the paint from your wall
Tearing into your reality
You do not notice
But your heartbeat quickens
Even in your dream you can feel your heart race
Will you ever wake up?
END
This sent chills through me! Great job!
